Jets Likely to Release QB Tim Tebow

The arrival of former Broncos wonder boy Tim Tebow to the New York Jets still fresh for many fans, team supporters and sports bettors. But after just one season with the team, Tebow and the New York Jets are likely to part ways soon.

Tebow , who’s under contract for another two years, won’t be taken in consideration for the coming season according to several sports media reports. Early this week, ESPN New York columnist Rich Cimini informed that Tebow is expected to be released right after the 2013 NFL Draft. But despite his fate, Tebow is likely to take part in New York’s voluntary offseason workouts set to start next Monday, April 15th.

The 25-year old QB was selected by the Broncos in the first round (25th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft, but was later traded to the New York Jets in exchange for the fourth and sixth round picks in the 2012 Draft.  Despite his raising popularity among team fans, he saw little action during the 2012 season, throwing only 8 passes and completing 6 for a total of 39 yards.

But Tebow’s inactivity raised some controversy as the fans and media demanded Coach Rex Ryan to bench the Mark Sanchez in favor of Tebow. While Tebow spent most of his time on the bench behind QB’s Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy, the Jets continued to struggle, finishing the 2012 NFL season with a 6-10 record.

New York made some previous attempts to trade Tebow, but hasn’t been able to find a market.  Considering the 2013 Draft is just around the corner, the Jets may have no option but releasing Tebow.
